Michigan Wounded and Returning Warrior Program
This extremely vital and successful program serves our wounded and returning warriors and their families. We have been sending our wounded and returning warriors and their families on all expense paid retreats to resort locations such as, Mackinac Island, Treetops Resort in Gaylord, MI, Garland Resort in Lewiston, MI and our own Wilwin at Cygnet Cove in Custer MI.
We host and fund group PTS, (Post Traumatic Stress), workshops at our retreat facility in partnership with the Michigan Psychological Association Foundation and Wilwin at Cygnet Cove. These group PTSD retreats have been extremely successful and have incorporated new and cutting edge therapy techniques such as equine therapy and Eco-therapy.
We offer Community Educational presentations on the effects of PTS as seen through the thoughts and perceptions of a returning service member during the year following homecoming. We work with our Wounded and Returning Warriors to help ease the burden of reintegration by providing emergency temporary financial assistance, home modification assistance to provide a more accessible and friendly living environment, guidance and assistance with disability claims, direction and access to a vast network of service providers.
The Michigan Wounded and Returning Warrior program is managed under the Michigan American Legion Foundation, (501c3), through the direction of the Reconnect Committee with American Legion Department of Michigan oversight. As volunteer veterans with all administrative costs covered by the American Legion Dept. of Michigan, 100% of all donations are used to assist our veterans and military families.
