The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program "A Constitutional Speech Contest"

The American Legion Oratorical contests can be financially as well as educationally rewarding. High School students who are U. S. citizens or lawful residents can hone their speaking skills, while learning about the U.S. Constitution.

Department level scholarship awards range from $800 to $1500, with Zone runner-ups receiving $200. At the National level they range from $14,000 to $18,000.

The competition may begin with a contest at the Zone level no later than February 5, 2009. (If the number of contestants is sufficient to warrant it, a District or even Post contest may be held at a time that allows for advancement to the Zone Contest.)  The Department (State level) contest will be held at the Stae Headquarters in Lansing on February 28, 2009. Winner will advance to the National Contest in Indianapolis, IN, on April 17-19, 2009.

Most Posts have information available and a student should contact a local American Legion Post, (ask Zone Chairman to suggest Post), and ask for sponsorship.
