Sons of the American Legion
Dominic R. Merlington
Dominic has been a member since the early 1980’s, joining under the service of his grandfather Robert Merlington who served in the Army during WWII. He is following the footsteps of his father Ronny Merlington, who served as detachment commander in 1986-87. Dominic is proudly continuing this legacy of service to the Sons and The American Legion Family.
He has been squadron commander for 10 years. At the district level, he has served as adjutant, vice commander and commander. At the state level, he has chaired many committees, including Membership, Americanism, Awards and Trophies and Public Relations. He also was Commander’s Aide and Adjutant.
On a personal level, Dominic has worked for the Kent County Road
Commission for 30 years. He and his lovely wife, Christine, have been married for 13 years, and have a daughter and a son.
The Commander’s special project will be the Fisher House Foundation, whose mission is to provide temporary accommodations for veterans, military personnel and their families while the veteran is receiving medical attention at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center Ann Arbor Healthcare System.
The theme he will be promoting is “SONS WILL”. Sons have the will to help preserve our American traditions and values, improve the quality of life for our nation's children, care for veterans and their families, and teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship. If you are asked “who will?” – the answer is “SONS WILL”!
